The Gimp an open-source program - FREE! - it has real potential for competing with Photoshop and PhotoPaint.

Corel PhotoPaint 12 easier to use than Photoshop and can do almost as much at a fraction of the price. Comes as a part of the Corel Graphics Suite or, if you can find it, as a stand-alone program.

Corel Painter create "brushes" that can be used to "repaint" a photograph in various textures and styles with remarkable results. It can be purchased at the upgrade price by registered owners of Photoshop and several other programs - the list is here.

Gi-Whiz Digital Services for Artists (828-693-9041) 111 Richards Drive, Hendersonville Iris "Giclee" printing. Fred and Marcia Fitts (father/daughter) have several flatbed scanners, computers and an Iris Printer (22” x 24”). Very nice people and great quality on a variety of printing paper. They work out of their house, so you will need to make an appointment to see them. Their main business is reproducing original art work (paintings)
